We Are Calder Masonry

Pawson Brothers commenced quarrying in Morley in 1841 with the intention of supplying quality buff sandstone for construction projects in the Morley area. Notable local landmarks using the stone include the Morley Town Hall which was built in 1895.

Calder Masonry Ltd now has the sole rights to Woodkirk Stone and is honoured to follow in this proud tradition, continuing to extract stone more than 175 years later at the same location. We are one of the largest producers of dimensional Yorkstone in the UK, supplying Woodkirk stone nationwide as well as to the Republic of Ireland. A dedicated management team involved in the day to day business of extracting the stone in the quarry and processing it through our on-site factory ensures customers receive a premium product and service.

As the primary source Calder Masonry controls the extraction, manufacture and sale of Woodkirk stone ensuring we can guarantee the quality and longevity of the stone for both internal and external applications from large scale public realm contracts programmed over a number of years to an individual private residence or garden project.

Our Management  Team

Ian Howgate – Managing Director

Ian has a real passion for stone, with over 30 years experience in the stone industry, a fully qualified advanced stonemason including carving credentials. Ian started his career completing a stonemasonry apprenticeship at Britannia Quarries and progressed to setting up his own business. His vision of a high-quality Masonry company became a reality as Calder Masonry began its journey back in 1994. Building a solid reputation for both skill and reliability Ian is enthusiastic to now be in charge of the quarry after securing the sole rights to Woodkirk Yorkshire Sandstone. Ian oversees both the quarry development/extraction plan and full production facility guaranteeing the ultimate success and longevity of the business.

Nicola Howgate – Executive Director

Nicola joined the family business over 20 years ago and has gained a great depth of knowledge and experience of the stone industry. Nicola has always been very customer focused believing that quality and service are key elements to customer satisfaction. As the business has developed her role is now more involved with the directing and management of the business but she is still hands-on with sales, maintaining great relationships with customers.

Adam Reynard – Senior Estimator

Adam is a key member of the Calder Masonry team in the role of Senior Estimator/ Production Planner. He follows projects from the initial quote to completion. He has a background of working in the stone industry for many years, with experience in both architectural and large-scale commercial projects. An important part of Adam’s role is working closely with Architects, Landscapers, builders and Project Managers, ensuring that the end users requirements are met to the highest standards.

Clare Farnell – Senior Administrator

A Bachelors of Psychology graduate Clare joined Calder Masonry in May 2017 with over 7 Years experience in Administration and HR. As head of administration Clare covers a variety of roles including overseeing both purchase ledger and credit control departments. From initial invoicing to payment and beyond Clare’s role is to deal with all inquiries, making certain that any issues are dealt with succinctly and to a high standard.
